The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early break points in a close third set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
