A man who spiked sweets with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children who were nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in July.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.

However, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

The accused was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "for many years", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The legal representative stated further: "This year his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member notified the police a second time.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five children.
